Shmi Skywalker Lars is a character first appearing in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace (1999). She is the mother of Anakin Skywalker, the future Darth Vader.
Shmi was a slave on the desert planet Tatooine. She was owned by Gardulla the Hutt and later by Watto, a Toydarian junk dealer. Remarkably, she conceived Anakin without a father, claiming he had no biological parent.
She possessed a kind and nurturing nature, fostering Anakin's innate abilities and encouraging his dreams. She recognized his potential and supported his departure from Tatooine to train as a Jedi, trusting in Qui-Gon Jinn's promise.
